down train
The down train («поезд, идущий вниз») — это тот, который направляется из Лондона или от ближайшей крупной железнодорожной станции. Он отличается от the up train («поезд, идущий вверх»), который движется в противоположном направлении. Вот почему работники железнодорожных станций используют фразы the down platform и the up platform. Кстати, в Великобритании люди всегда путешествуют up to London, и никогда down to London, откуда бы они ни отправлялись, так как Лондон, являясь столицей, должен быть «выше», «важнее» любого другого города.
